Bio Information

Cory Barnfield currently resides in Louisville, Kentucky, where he enjoys a multi-faceted career as both a performer and an educator.  He is the founding member and soprano saxophonist of the Louisville Saxophone Quartet, a professional ensemble that enjoys presenting programs in a wide variety of styles to diverse audiences throughout the region.  Mr. Barnfield also serves as saxophonist for the Paducah, Louisville, and Jackson Symphony Orchestras.  In addition, he plays clarinet in the Indiana University Southeast Symphonic Wind Ensemble, a group comprised of the finest wind players in the Louisville metro area.  Barnfield has performed in over fifty musicals to date, doubling on all saxophones, clarinets, and flutes.  He is a member of the local 11-637 Musicians Union of Louisville and is currently on call with Actors Theater, Derby Dinner Playhouse, and Stage One. 

                         Mr. Barnfield has performed at a number of regional, national, and international conferences including the Indiana State University Contemporary Music Festival, North American Saxophone Alliance conferences held in Texas, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Indiana, and Arizona, the World Saxophone Congress held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and the United States Navy Band Symposium in Fairfax, Virginia.  He has also appeared as a soloist with the  Murray State University Orchestra, Murray State University Wind Ensemble, Southern Illinois Concert Band, and Indiana State University Wind Ensemble.  Barnfield was also principal saxophonist with the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Youth Wind Orchestra in San Obispo CA and Lucerne Switzerland.  He has been named a prizewinner in the Music Teachers National Association state, regional, and national competitions as a soloist and chamber musician.               

             Mr. Barnfield is currently band director at Carrithers Middle School in Louisville, where he directs the beginning band, advanced band, marching band, jazz band, and percussion ensemble.  In addition, he is responsible for teaching two arts and humanities courses. In the Summer,  Barnfield is the saxophone instructor for the Governor’s School for the Arts, where he teaches some of the finest young musicians in Kentucky.  He also serves as a judge for the Kentucky All-State Band auditions held in Louisville Kentucky.  Cory serves as a clinician for the Kentucky Center for the Arts where he is sent to various institutions to give masterclasses and performances.  Barnfield received his BME degree from Murray State University and his MS degree from Indiana University.  Mr. Barnfield has studied saxophone with Scott Erickson, Otis Murphy and Tim McAllister, and clarinet with Scott Locke.
